Ortho Problems

Dr. Shawn and Dr. Candice are certified orthodontists, meaning they received three years of training specifically in orthodontics. They are not only experts at making teeth straight but they also have extensive training in diagnosing different types of bites and skeletal growth patterns and treating them accordingly. Below are a few examples of the type of problems and malocclusion that can be corrected with orthodontic treatment.

An underbite is an orthodontic issue when the lower jaw extends out further than the top front teeth.

overbite.jpgSpacing

This describes spaces in the teeth when teeth are too far apart or if there are missing teeth. This is usually a cosmetic issue.

overbite.jpgUpper Front Teeth Protrusion

Either the upper teeth extend too far forward or the lower teeth don't extend far enough forward.

Crowding

Crowding happens when the teeth are pushed together too tightly which can damage teeth. It can be difficult to floss as well.

crossbite.jpgCrossbite

The upper teeth sit inside the lower teeth and can cause misaligned jaw growth.

overbite.jpgOverbite

An overbite is when the front teeth extend too far out over the lower front teeth. This can often be called "buck teeth." Sometimes the lower front teeth bite into the roof of the mouth and it can be very uncomfortable.

openbite.jpgOpenbite

The upper and lower front teeth do not overlap which effects biting food. Tongue thrusting often becomes an issue with an openbite.

This occurs when the back teeth do not properly meet up and fit. They do not match together which causes issues with bite and eating.
